Term: Reticular formation
Definition: While there is some confusion in the literature about the various parts of the reticular formation, virtually every modern account is based on the pioneering work of Olszewski and his colleagues (Meessen and Olszewski 1949; Olszewski and Baxter 1954), which was modified by Brodal (1957) for the cat and by Valverde (1962) for the rat.
