Term: vomeronasal nerve

Definition: According to Vacarezza et al. 1981, Halpern 1987. It may be thought of a specialization of the olfactory nerve from a specialized region of the olfactory epithelium, the vomeronasal organ. It ends in the accessory olfactory bulb, whose axons travel through a localized region of the lateral olfactory tract called the accessory olfactory tract (Scalia and Winans 1975).
