Term: Cell
Definition: Cells are any of the minute protoplasmic masses that form organized tissue; they consist of a nucleus surrounded by cytoplasm that contains various organelles, and are enclosed by a plasma membrane. They are the fundamental structural and functional units of living organisms (Dorland Illustrated Medical Dictionary, 2003, p. 315).
