Term: sensory neuron

Definition: Sensory neurons form the division of neurons that transduces stimuli from the environment or non-neuronal parts of the body, and transmits them to other parts of the sensory system, as well as directly or indirectly via the sensory system to the motor, behavioral state, and cognitive systems (Swanson, 2003, p. 187 ff.; Bota and Swanson, 2007, Fig. 3).
