Description of part

The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (or nucleus interstitialis striae terminalis) is a forebrain nucleus situated just ventral to the septal complex in close approximation with the anterior commissure. Originally described as ribbon of gray matter following the course of the stria terminalis (Johnston, '23), it consists of a somewhat heterogeneous collection of cell groups unified in constituting one of the major terminal fields of the amygdala by way of the stria terminalis (De Olmos and Ingram, '72; Krettek and Price, '78). Collator note: the initial nomenclature is adapted from Nomina Anatomica. Koenig & Klippel do not provide a text definition, nor references for stb.
