As the bundles of the stria terminalis leave the amygdala and arch through the basal telencephalon to various destinations, a heterogeneous array of neurons, collectively called the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, is interspersed among its axons (Johnston, '23; Gurdjian, '25; Young, '36, Fox, '40; de Olmos and Ingram, '73; de Olmos et al., '85).
