Bed Nucleus Of The Stria Terminalis Anteroventral Area
abbreviation: BSTav
Abbreviation
BSTav
Species
Rat
Description of part
This is the most heterogeneous region of the BST and also the longest in the anteroposterior dimension. As shown in Figures 1-8, it is bordered dorsally by the anterior commissure, ventrally and medially by the substantia innominata and lateral and medial preoptic areas, and more caudally by the lateral and anterior hypothalamic areas. The neurons in this area are generally small, especially anteriorly, but tend to become larger at more caudal levels. There appear to be at least six distinct cell groups embedded within the anteroventral area.
