Description of part

This nucleus occupies the triangular area ventral to the magnocellular nucleus and narrows down as the caudal extension of the anterior division of the BST comes to lie ventral to the posterior division. It consists primarily of medium-sized multipolar neurons (Fig. 29), which contrasts sharply with the dorsally adjacent large cells of the magnocellular nucleus and the medially adjacent smaller neurons of the medial and anterior hypothalamic areas.
