A subdivision of IT, which is not specifically defined here. Its ventral and dorsal subparts are dissociated from the neighboring posterior inferotemporal cortex on (rough) topography (PIT and not CIT) and laminar organization of projections back to V4 (Van Essen et. al., 1991). Anterior part of the inferotemporal cortex differs from CIT in having much weaker connections with V4.
