Parabrachial Nucleus External Medial Subnucleus

abbreviation: PBexm

Abbreviation

PBexm

Species

Rat

Description of part

This collection of large multipolar neurons, whose long axis is oriented horizontally, form a narrow strip which trails off from the lateral edge of PBm to interpose itself between KF and the SCP (see Figs. 2A, B; 4D). These cells extend laterally to the edge of the pons and abut directly on the dorsal border of the principal sensory trigeminal nucleus. They are distinguished from neurons of the latter nucleus which are much larger and have a distinctively coarse, granular cytoplasmic staining.
