Collator note: this brain nucleus is not defined explicitly in Fulwiler & Saper, 1984. However, is described as a heterogeneous collection of neuron types, in contradistinction with the external medial nucleus. Therefore, its explicit definition is the same as the medial division of PB, with the note that PBm also includes the homogeneous collection of neurons of the PBexm. The name and abbreviation we used are borrowed from the Swanson-98 rat nomenclature.
