Description of part

Area PIP (posterior intraparietal) lies in a region once considered to be part of V3A (Van Essen and Zeki, 1978), but the 2 areas can now be distinguished by their topographic organization and by their connections with other visual areas (Felleman etal., 1987; Colby et al., 1988). Collator note: See Table 1, pages 6-7. PIP is defined in Felleman, Burkhalter & Van Essen, 1987 and Colby, Gattass, Olson & Gross, 1988 with high confidence in identification of region but uncertainty in border assignments (qualitative assessment of authors).
