Description of part

The prelimbic area (figs. 3A,B) lies rostral and dorsal to the infralimbic area and extends forward to the tip of the frontal pole. This area was named by Brodmann (’09), and designated area 32. It appears to correspond largely to the pregenual portion of the “area infraradiata intermedia anterior (IRbalpha)” described by M. Rose (’27), and to a ventral, pregenuall part of the anterior limbic cortex delimited by Rose and Woolsey (’48a). The prelimbic area possesses a well-defined lamination and is characterized chiefly by its relatively homogeneous layer V, which contains large, darkly-staining cells, and by a tightly-packed bilaminar layer V1.
