Description of part

The ventral endopiriform nucleus (EnV) as we describe it here, and as shown in Figs 1C; 3C, D is a loose arrangement of neurons in the deep part of the primary olfactory cortex, partly interspersed between it and the more ventral components of the external capsule ventrally; while dorsally it becomes separated from the external capsule by the compact portion of the endopirirform nucleus (EnD; volume 1, chapter 1). This area is best appreciated in Timm's stained section (Figs 3C, D; 4B) as a very lightly stained area deep to the darkly staining deepeest layers of the olfactory cortex and adjoining the moderately stained EnD and BLV. Although we have used the same nomenclature, this differs from the description of EnV by Krettek and Price (1978b) which includes the BLV.
