Description of part

The ventral part of the medial bed nucleus is located ventral to the anterior commissure and is composed of medium-sized cells interposed between the parastrial nucleus [i.e., the round nucleus of Raisman and Fields (1973)] and the ventral part of the lateral bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (Fig. 15B'). Rostrodorsally, it reaches the anterior part of the medial bed nucleus, whereas it borders. the intermediate part of the lateral bed nucleus caudally. The cells are loosely arranged, contrasting with those of the adjacent parastrial nucleus, and are larger and more chromophilic than the more closely spaced neurons of the ventral lateral bed nucleus of the stria terminalis. Ventrally, a cell-poor zone separates it from the preoptic area.
