It [ventral part of the lateral septal nucleus] is separated ventrolaterally from the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis by a cell-free zona limitans (Johnston, '13). This subdivision is said to be particularly distinct in the cat, where Andy and Stephan ('64) refer to it alone as the lateral septal nucleus.
