Description of part

The anterior cingulate area (figs. 3A,B, 4A,B) was described by Brodmann (’09), and designated area 24. It encompasses the “area infraradiata dorsalis (IRc)” and the supracallosal parts of the areas “infraradiata intermedia and ventralis (IRbbeta) and IRabeta” described by M. Rose (’27) and may correspond to a dorsal and supracallosal part of the anterior limbic cortex delimited by Rose and Woolsey (’48a). The anterior cingulate area is distinguished from the prelimbic area chiefly by its layer V which, especially rostrally, is conspicuously broader and less densely packed.
