Description of part

...is a small column of loosely packed cells closely associated with the accessory olfactory tract (Figs.1B, C; 3C). The nucleus accompanies the accessory olfactory tract from just prior to the entrance of the tract into the molecular layer of the anterior part of the amygdala until the tract assumes a position immediately caudal to the LOT. At this caudal level, the BAOT lies ventral to another small group of larger, more darkly staining neurons, anterior ventral dense celled subdivision of Me (MeAV). The cells in BAOT are slightly larger and more darkly staining than those in the remaining subdivisions of Me or those in ACo. Further, its lack of stratification provides and easy means of delineation from LOT. The BAOT corresponds very closely to the depiction of the bed nucleus of the accessory olfactory tract (Scalia and Winans, 1975 and to the description by Krettek and Price (1978b).
