Bed Nucleus Of The Stria Terminalis Medial Division Posterior Part Large Celled Column

abbreviation: BSTPMlgc

Abbreviation

Species

Rat

Description of part

Based on cytoarchitecture, the posterior BSTM can be subidivided into three cell columns: an anteriomedial small celled column, a medial medium celled column, and lateral large celled column. The lateral column contains a more heterogeneous population of neurons than the other two divisions of the posterior BSTM. Most of the cells in the large celled columns are loosely arranged in rows oriented parallel to the incoming fibers of the stria terminalis. These cells range in size from medium to large with some of the largest cells of the posterior BSTM occurring in this lateral part.
