Description of part

Based on cytoarchitecture, the posterior BSTM can be subidivided into three cell columns: an anteriomedial small celled column, a medial medium celled column, and lateral large celled column. BSTMPsc is composed of homogeneous densely packed darkly stained round to oval neurons, located in the extreme medial aspect of the posterior part of the BSTM. It extends ventromedially and stops at a level adjacent to the paraventricular commissural nucleus (Atlas, Fig. 16).
