Paragigantocellular Reticular Nucleus Lateral Part

Hierarchy level in atlas is 6: 5 superstructures include it.

abbreviation: PGRNl

Abbreviation

Description of part

According to Andrezik et al. 1981. Although this problem has not been addressed in detail, it seems likely from published maps (see Dahlstrom and Fuze 1964, Hokfelt et al. 1984, Sawchenko et al. 1985, Giuliano et al. 1989, Ellenberger et al. 1990) that the C1 adrenergic group, the A1 noradrenergic group, the ventrolateral medulla, and the rostral ventrolateral medulla are centered in (though not necessarily confined strictly to) the PGRNl, with relatively minor possible involvement of the ventral division of the nucleus ambiguus (see note 295).

Endorsement

The approach used by the collator Mihail Bota is not endorsed by the author of the nomenclature.

Collator argument

The hierarchy was constructed and adapted according to the information found in the Rat Brain Atlas, Swanson 1992. We have considered three types of brain structures: grisea (neural masses), fiber tracts, and ventricles. The hierarchical tree was constructed by taking into account two criteria: the set of classes and subclasses of the basic cell groups and fiber systems of the rat CNS and the topological positions of structures relative to superstructures.
