Description of part
Posterior intermediate (PI) BST lies between PM and the posterior lateral and preoptic RST (Fig. 2C). This subnucleus consists of ovoid, medium-sized, darkly staining neurons that show indistinct nuclear borders and little cytoplasm (Fig. 3H). Many of the PI neurons are oriented perpendicular to the strial fibers coursing through the BST. Scattered PM neurons are also found in PI (arrows, Fig. 3H).
