Collator argument

The hierarchy was constructed based on the information provided in the atlas (pages 281-287), and on the latest version of the hierarchical tree provided by the first author of the atlas. The nucleus of the diagonal band and all its subidivisions appear as belonging to two hierarchies, depending on the division of the medial septal area. The medial septal area (MSA) appears as a substructure of the septal region, but also it appears to contain a part (orodorsal extension of the basal nuclear complex), which belongs to the basal nuclear complex (BNC). This orodorsal extension also contains DB and all its substructures. We have not inserted the orodorsal extension of the MSA as a structure, since it is unclear what is its relationship with the MSA as a whole, and with its substructures. We have considered that this is a case of inconsistency, since the same structures (DB and its subparts) belong to two different regions of the MSA.
