In the rat theposterior cortical amygdaloid nucleus is composed of small, pale cells which form an ovoid mass that is surmounted by a plexiform layer. It is prominent only in the caudal one-quarter of the amygdaloid complex where it lies adjacent to the periamygdaloid cortex, laterally, and the basomedial nucleus, dorsally.
