: Away from the mouth along the longitudinal axis (Barclay, 1803) of the body; the opposite of rostral (Schulze, 1893). Used by Cleland (1879, p. 179) who paired it with cephalic (away from the head or toward the tail). Also see rostrocaudal axis.
