: A peripheral ganglion is a macroscopic aggregation of neurons (Waldeyer, (1891), that is, a gray matter region, in the peripheral nervous system (Meckel, 1817) of invertebrates and vertebrates; see Bullock & Horridge (1965, p. 51), also see ganglion (Galen, c173).
