We (Swanson 1998-1999) have applied this name to a distinguishable cell group between the locus coeruleus and Barrington's nucleus that receives circumscribed inputs from the lateral hypothalamic area (Kelly 1995) and central nucleus of the amygdala (Petrovich and Swanson 1997).
