Description of part

Bechterew 1899; Taber et al. 1960; Valverde 1962. A superior central nucleus with medial and lateral zones has long been recognized. König and Klippel (1963) referred to the nucleus medianus raphés, which may correspond to the medial part, where serotonergic neurons are apparently concentrated (Dahlström and Fuxe 1964).
