Schwind 1928; Daniel and Prichard 1975. The MEex and INFex contain the proximal end of the hypophysial portal system (note 316), the vascular link between hypothalamus and pituitary (PIT) anterior lobe (AL). The AL and IL (intermediate lobe) of the pituitary are derived embryologically from the roof of the mouth whereas the neural lobe is an outgrowth of the hypothalamus.
