Description of part

The subthalamic nucleus (Figs. 45-52 45-52) is prominent in the mouse. Laterally it is lens shaped, as in the rat, but medially it becomes more rounded than in the rat.

The hierarchy of this region was constructed using the rat atlas Paxinos and Watson 1998. We included this region directly under the forebrain, but see Swanson 1992, Swanson 1998 and Bowden 2000.
