Description of part

This nucleus comes as close to a basal nucleus of Meynert as anything in the rat. Cholinergic neurons here innervate preferentially in the olfactory bulb. Whether it is in fact of the preoptic hypothalamus, derived from third ventricular neuroepithelium, is doubtful. See Swanson 1976a; Rye et al. 1984 and notes 62 and 64.
